        1. Hampton man in hospital with life threatening injuries after hitting a tree

          UPDATE: The man has been identified as 57-year-old Hampton Police Chief Terrence “Terry” A. Engle.

          Engle was transported to a local area hospital, where he succumbed to life-threatening injuries he sustained in the crash.

          EARLIER UPDATE: A single vehicle crash has left a Hampton man in the hospital with life-threatening injuries. It happened while the man was traveling northbound on Illinois Route 84 Northbound 180th Street.

          The car veered off the road and hit a tree on the left side of the roadway. The accident is still under investigation.
